  • Muslims Cry About The Witcher 2!! OMG!

    Witcher-2-muslim

I played Witcher 1 a few years ago and thought it was a decent game. I don’t mind a bit of RPG action every now and then. Even though Witcher 2 was receiving a huge amount of press, i wasn’t that interested in the game, i was back into FPS games again and the plan was to sit tight till Battlefield 3 comes out.

That was until last week…While doing my usual coffee and news run i noticed a bunch of news articles about their recent 1.2 patch. It seems those dam Muslims were up to no good again! a quick Google search with the words Muslim and Witcher 2 comes back with basically all the results relating to

“I want my Islamic textures back in Witcher 2!”

“Witcher 2 is just as important as Islam in my opinion, i like it even more than Islam, but i would never demand Islam to conform to my…”

and so on and so forth. Now i consider myself to be an individual who enjoys their games, just ask my wife, she can back me up on that…. I also consider myself to be a 100% Muslim human being. But at no point do i remember me burning CDProjekts flag, sending letters of hate or any riots that turned up on the nightly news?

The issue from my understanding is that there were apparently some textures which had Islamic motives on them and these had now been removed from the game. Apparently these were in the first game Witcher, but i played through and didn’t even notice them?

So with the latest patch being 1.2, CDProjekt decided that they would remove these textures from the game. All in all a great move. For CDProjekt it’s a win-win situation really. Seeing as no one (including themselves) knew that these motives were in there (I’m assuming they just put the textures in thinking they looked good) in the first place, by removing them the game itself has not lost anything. It’s not like there are levels missing now or that the story now doesn’t make sense…they were just textures.

On the other hand, In my eyes anyway, they have done a good thing by removing a texture from the game which “could” be seen as offensive by Muslims.  Win and Win.

One thing that i believe a lot of Muslims are really bad at is voicing their opinions in a loud, efficient and non-destructive way. We are bad at letting businesses, people and the general community know that we do appreciate it when they have put some effort in to be considerate to Muslims.

So after seeing this news about the 1.2 patch and Muslims i did 2 things,

    • Firstly, I went out and purchased the game to show them my support and appreciation (even though i had no plans of buying the game before i heard about the texture issue)
    • Secondly, I sent an email to CDProjekt thanking them for removing the content and attached the screenshot of the purchase.

Companies need to know when they have done something good or bad and YOU need to show that to them with the one thing that matters to them…. $$$$$. If they hadnt of removed the texture, i can 100% guarantee i would never have purchased the game. On the flip side, now that they did remove the texture, i felt i should buy the game and support them.

I have another similar story with EA games and ill post that up some other time.

    Slms.

Yeah there’s been a few situations like this, most of the time a storm in a teacup situation though. But you know the media, add Muslim to the headline and you have a winner ;)

I’m confused. From the random comments you quoted it sounds like people were upset that the Muslim textures were removed, but the article talks about how it was a positive gesture. Which is it?

Also, when you say Motives, do you mean Motifs? or is a motive a Muslim item that I am unfamiliar with?

        Hi Chris,
The quotes that are in the article are just that, quotes from Google search results, not my opinions. In my opinion what they did was a positive thing as there was no change to game play as a result of the change but did result in more sales for CDProjekt.

In regards to motives the merriem webster dictionary could have given you the answer with a quick Google search. Are you from the States by any chance?
