I remember when the craze with mobiles was all about how small can you go. Seeing as they started as brixks held to your head, soon the trend was to be as small as they could possibly make them. As with all trends it has come full circle and now its about huge screens. So whats the next jump? How about touch screens where you can feel the keys?
Tactus Technology has been showing off demos of its new screen which essentially lifts buttons out onto the screen when the keyboard is up, then removes them when you put the phone to sleep. According to TGDaily
“Tactus uses microfluidic technology to create physical buttons that rise from the touchscreen to give users the experience or feeling of operating a physical keyboard. When no longer needed, the buttons recede back into the touchscreen, leaving no trace of their presence.”
Its definitely something to look forward to as there is nothing like feeling what you are typing when on a touch screen. The technology will be showcased at SID display Week 20112 in Boston so it will be interesting to see how the tech develops and when the big boys like Samsung will start releasing it on phones and tablets.
