It's silly if you ask me, Facebook is a platform that everybody uses to share things. Twitter likewise, youtube likewise. It's there because people want it, it's a success because people use it. Who you share it with is a personal choice.

For example, you may be ok with me seeing the picture of your face so you can set it to only be allowed to be viewed by me and nobody else. Now I could share your picture but if you trust me enough to show your picture then that would mean you trust me enough to not share it either, but if you don't then don't share it.

You have used youtube to share gameplay video's and reviews etc. I just don't see how any of the social websites are bad as long as the privacy settings are set accordingly.

I use facebook and I am careful in what I write and show. I don't write very often and if I show a picture I make sure there are no faces on them from my family that can be recognised. And my setting is put (as far as I know) at the highest.

Some of my friends have been tagging me and put my face on facebook without asking me but it have usually been in a group picture.

Something that will never be seen on internet any place are picture on my children.

Facebook is a social media. Only one of my friends that I know don't have it. I only use it to keep check on what my family and friends are doing. It's fun to be able to see what everybody is doing in their life.

Internet is a big and scary place, worse than the real world. Unfortunatley, most people don't know how to protect themselves and some are just plain stupid. Just because we can't see bad people on our screen doesn't mean they are not there or try to take advantage of us. You just have to think on what you do before you act, just like in real life.

I just wish people could realize that.

Yeah the PC illiterate tend to leave a lot of info about them for the world to see. Esp. in internet cafes. Passport scanned photos. MSN addresses. Photos.

I've stopped using FB. I made a lot of online 'friends' and Im using the word friends loosely and they're just that. I did stay in touch with my brother but we exchanged some harsh words and that was that.

This one is so true though, I have to admit. You post some important real life stuff and nobody cares, you post something useless and everybody likes it lol.

I have to admit majority of my facebook consists of Ex colleagues + 1 current colleague. However I also have old friends on it from Holland to stay in touch with them, I have my family on it and my ex wife to stay in touch and share pictures of our daughter. It's perfect for those type of things.

Also you can set that nobody can tag you without your approval.

I have a facebook, but I don't post at all, I just read what others post. I may put like a qur'an verse every once in a while but thats about it.

I do post on the r/islam group we have going.

I think it boils down to how the user decides to use facebook/twitter, and whether or no they are retarded. Also the people that they allow to follow/add them.

I use facebook all the time: Its not to be trusted at all. Never post anything about yourself ever!

I usually use facebook for my group, I post everything on there (I treat it like my wall basically). My actual wall is largely empty apart from a few doodle jump highscores.

A lot of the people on my friends lists are my friends but they aren't friends that I necessarily want to share everything with so I choose to only post on my group where I trust everyone. (The group is used by all of my close/good friends to post whatever they want. When I go on the group I only see things posted by people I have an interest in and it works both ways, another awesome thing is that whenever anyone posts anything we all get a notification which is really useful for helping us to keep up with what's going on.

Also from time to time we organise things for which we require an event, when we create an event in the group only the people in the group can see it (so basically my close friends who i'd invite anyway) this makes it less awkward when people see you're doing something and their not invited.)

Bottom Line: If you're going to use facebook be careful about what you post.

Oh and Twitter: Only use Twitter if you are doing something interesting, No one cares about what you've had for your lunch or how much money you spent in a shop.

My rule on facebook is that I only have friends there that I've actually met in IRL and actually like plus family. And I only write something random if I'm totally bored. Troll my friends on their comments (especially when they write something worthless like what they ate and what weather it's like outside).

But if something interesting would happen (which almost never happens in my boring life) I post it. In that way my friends know what happens in my life without the uninteresting parts.
