RAM and more RAM! As well as Corrupt RAM!

Salaam :)
so i've been tinkering with my RAM. i took out 2 sticks and it seems to be doing just fine.

Specs
i7 930 - triple channel memory
5870 ati radeon
DDR3 1333mhz 12 GB RAM (after BSoD, my computer detects 8GB - then goes to 12GB after i reboot)

the memory is 2 tripple channel kits in 2GB pairs. so... 2 x (2GB x 3) see picture since its kinda confusing

now i have 4 sticks left (2GBx4 = 8GB)
so my triple channel is broken...

Questions:
1. is it worth getting another triple channel kit?
2. please explain what the colours mean in the RAM slots.. is it related to triple channel slots?
3. explain RAM compatibility with other RAM please (i.e. timing, voltage, etc.)

mustardy you need to check your motherboard specifications. some motherboard only accept memory if inserted in a specific way. Like for example: The below stripes are memory slots

So you see the red arrows? Well some motherboard tell you to put it in that way rather then right next to one another. And then there are motherboards that aren't compatible with all memory sticks.

Keep in mind the above info is acquired when I used to do a lot of PC builds, which I haven't done in a while, so maybe now it's a standard that all motherboards can take pretty much all memory sticks. But hey just my 2 cents :P

Triple channel will still work as long as you get another stick or 2 sticks of ram appropriate for your motherboard, find out what your ram voltage is, or better yet, buy the same ram again and just slap it in as Zain has displayed.

As for point 4, if the kinston hyper x has the same voltage and same timings (or close enough) then its not an issue :)

i bought a kingston with around the same voltage and didn't get to check the timings

will go and check motherboard manual and then reboot inshAllah

but guys i kinda ran into some trouble >.< figures, right?

volPanlu.exe is taking a lot of CPU when i open it. it's just the volume mixer for windows.
and i can't hear any sound with headphones. idk how this could relate to my new RAM
its not static electricity, i discharged b4 touching comp

why would it lag my computer?

my RAM usage is 23% and normally rests at 16% (will double check on reboot)
