Microsoft: No more Aero for Windows 8

    Postby gengis » 21 May 2012, 01:18

For those that still weren’t aware, Windows 8 is not too far away now. For any of you that were around for Windows ME, you know the disaster that can happen when a new windows launches. Windows 7 was\is pretty good, from what I have seen from Windows 8, Im not looking forward to it and dont see the need to upgrade. Especially after this latest announcement.

I heard windows 8 kills PCs as we know them. It's like android ICS (4.1 IceCream Sandwich) in the sense that they want the same OS on both platforms. It will be geared more towards the touch screen interface. I plan on keeping windows 7 for oblong time. Just like XP out lasted Vista.

I dont think that its gaming friendly, probably one for avg consumer, my guess is that for the tablet market and not general PCs

I'm going stick with Windows 7, I don't have a problem with Windows 7 or any of its features (although I wish I could get Homegroup to work), I'll probably upgrade once Windows 7 stops being supported or when a new Windows OS comes out that actually appeals to me.

Windows 8 is probably going to be another Vista in terms of success

I don't see how that tablet style GUI is going to work for people with multi-monitor setups.

The metro interface will only work on the primary monitor, The stupidest thing is though that once you've navigated out of the Metro Interface/Start Menu into something like Windows Explorer then it looks exactly the same as Windows 7 so I don't why they just don't release Windows 8 as an OS for Tablets that happens to run the majority of windows programs, oh wait it doesn't because tablets generally run on ARM processors which have a different architecture to Intel/AMD Processors.

thats the thing, i think it will be great on tablets and phones, but why they think it will be good on a desktop i have no idea...

I have tried to do some research around gaming and windows 8 to write an article but it doesnt look like there is much information out there at the moment.

there have been a couple of rumours about cross platform gaming involving the xbox 360 and windows 8.

that has been in the making for years, i remember being in conferences at that being brought up way back since the launch of xbox360. I think it will start with Windows 8 but wont mature for another couple versions yet.

Maybe then we can finally prove to console gamers that keyboard and mouse defeats game pad on fps games.

A couple of things to remember:
    - Only a couple of games will be supported (most likely GFWL titles even though its dead)
    - I doubt microsoft will let PC gamers tear down console players. I reckon that pc gamers will have to use a controller to play with the console players so it is fair for all.
    - Xbox Live isn't free! I wouldn't be surprised if microsoft decided to charge pc gamers to do crossplatform gaming.
    - Types of Games i foresee being cross platform: Grand Theft Auto IV, The yet to be released Elder Scrolls online, FIFA, Need For Speed.
    - Types of games I would like to see become crossplatform: Minecraft (although the Xbox Version is far behind the pc version so Mojang has got its work cut out), Civilization (Probabably not Civ 5 but i reckon Civ 6 would be crossplatform. The major advantage if Civ is that it doesn't require pin point precision so everyone can play with whichever hardware they want.)
