    [STICKY] Minecraft Server Revamp

    Postby AbrarSyed » 15 May 2012, 00:22

    NEW UPDATE
THE RESULT OF THIS POLL will decide what happens with teh currency. This is for starting prices.
    see latest post....

    Assalamu-alaikum everyone

gengis has put me up to the task of revamping the minecraft server. I am right now installing a bunch of plugins that will inshallah completely transform the current server experience.

At the current moment, this thread has nothing usefull to you. However, later today, this thread will contain a list of all the installed plugins. There will also be links to wikis for each plugin that will describe everything from to permissions, to the commands, to actual ing-Game usage.

This will also be the thread that I will host polls for some features that I thinkg the community should decide such as the name for the currency, if killing monsters yeilds money etc.

Keep in mind that the server will NOT CHANGE GRADUALLY. I plan on making all teh necesary requirements and stuff on my own computer. and then one day, bring the server down for an update. Once the server is back up, it will have all the changes.
If you need to be an Admin, and stuff. please post here and tell me your Minecraft name, so I can add you to the Admins list.

    CURRENT PLUGINS
    - WorldEdit: http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldEdit/Permissions

    I also really really reccomend a server-reset.
Im talking a new map and stuff.

Also, a completely new map and stuff.

The way I am looking at it right now.. McMyAdmin is really really getting in the way. I prefer a straight linux command ine and stuff. it will be MUCH easier to administrate like that. All the permissions that are not editable in-game with commands is edittable through config files and FTP. The actual server console is not really usefull considering you can do all of that in-Game from an admin player.
As an alternative, I reccomend one of these...
    http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/bukkit-webby/
    http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/bukkitmanager/
    http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/milkadmin/

the reason for the new map, would be to make stuff work with the new regions. currently people are building INSIDE other things...
    for example:
someone has a complete base connected to the masjif. hard to define the "masjid" when stuff is built like that. someone also has a home 1/2 built into the spawn area. again.. very hard to define the "spawn-area" with that.

I again apologize for anyone that might lose some hard work. if it is just a really nice building, I can copy it out with WorldEdit. However if it is something that spans the world or is very much made part of the surroundings, I can't move those over.

please please everyone tell me your thoughts on this.

    But it isn't necessary:

The house built into the spawn is my house so i'll just move it, no big issue cus it isnt' brilliant anyway (btw i demand some sort of compensation package :))

The only other 3 structures in the game are fadi's docklands(far from spawn), asad3ainjalouts castle (not sure where that is!) and gerzis' house, have you been inside gerzis' house is it actualy brilliant. I'd rather just move the spawn building than make gerzis have to start all over again.

hehe, I think you already admin Rizwan....

Yeah, if you move your house, we can set that up. We WILL have to rebuild the spawn though. The plugin I have allows you to set a radius about the actual spawn point, to be designated as "the spawn". currently the spawn thing isn't really centered... anyways.

To start a town, you guys contact me or another admin: MG_hamza (idk forum name, unles its hamza :P) or Rizwan, and we can set up an area where you can define plots of land. you deisgnate those for whatever you want....
    - no PVP zone
    - claimable zone
    - buyable zone
    - no-use-chest zone
    - if killed in region spawn in this zone
or a combination. Look into WorldGaurd for more info.

In case you guys went on the server lately, and wondered what that random giant thing of stone was, that was my failed test at a mob-Arena.

Also: the last issue is the guy who built himself into the masjid, AND the issue of the subway. I am not sure exactly how much land setting the spawn area does. it might extend all vertically.. thus underground stuff will be hurt.

jussayin, anything is possible. so please suggest anything or everything you guys want or need me to consider.

AbrarSyed what is up with the lag on the server?
There is seriously something up: With 2 players the ram usage was 622/1024!
KoubaDZ and I were playing in the server before we couldn't even destroy a block.

There should be no lag. Nothing I installed had any log-creating elements.
wow, that is a LOT of RAM usage... I am gonna have gengis allow us to use a mySQL server, will probably speed stuff up a ton instead of using flatFiles for protection and stuff.

I know for a fact that I made you admin rizwan, so use the /pex commands to set Kouba to the "Member" group. I am pretty sure I did already.. but idk. In case you don't know, the "default" group cannot do anything but talk.

Thanks, I didn't mean that we didn't have sufficient permissions (although I think zaido/abu_zooz was having a few problems) i meant that the lag meant that when I destroyed a block it would not register as a destroy because of the intense lag.
