First Image of Brand New Square Enix RPG.

Square Enix is working on a brand new role-playing game that isn't Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Pointing that out makes it sure seem like Square Enix only makes FF and DQ. It doesn't.

The new role-playing game is an action RPG and is apparently aimed at Westerners. If you are a Westerner, well, what do you think? There's an owl, a sword, a castle, and the lingering feeling that this could be a velvet painting from the late 70s.

The link below is for Square Enix's help wanted site. The Tokyo-based developer currently has something like 35 staffers assigned to the project and is looking to expand the team.

Deus Ex: HR was published by Square Enix not made by them. It was made by Eidos who are located in Canada.

anyone want to list the main differences between a japanese RPG and Western RPG? @omar1993 you might be able to help with this one?

Japanese = Tends to be Turn based and has a ridiculous grind

Western = Majority of Good games fall in this category such as Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, etc.

I'm about to rock your world. Ready, ready, ready? Diablo, Baldur's Gate, and Dragon Age ALL have grinding involved. Even if Japanese grinding is bloated, no one takes the cake more than the average Korean MMO.

On a more personal and biased note, grinding or no grinding, doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is fun or the story/plot is great.

Well it depends what you classify as grinding. When you have to constantly do quests that are useless like kill X rats at X location and come back. For me that is a grind, unless there is a story behind it that adds value and hides it. So instead of rats, 2 thieves kidnapped my daughter and if you bring them to me alive I will reward you and make sure you're recognised for your deeds. As a result your reputation could increase or you can go over there and make a deal with the thieves instead and get a lot of money and let them get away with it but your reputation decreases. THAT is not grind. So Baldur's gate as to my definition does not have a grind because of that.

I may have come across really biased I admit but I don't mind a bit of grind myself as one of my favourite games is Final Fantasy VII. yes it has a lot of grind but the story kept me going and the gameplay is cool. Turn based when done properly is great, but if done wrong it ruins the whole game. It's finding the right balance, and to be honest most Asian RPG don't get the balance right. Oh by the way I used to play Aion and I loved it, despite the grind. I still think it's a very enjoyable game especially now that the grind has been decreased dramatically.

My point is, let's face it Eastern games tend to be Heavy on the grind side. THAT is fact. but a grind can be hidden if done properly, just look at Starwars The Old Republic

Lol, I couldn't because you said Baldur's gate had a grind, so I had to defend it first. That is my top favourite game! They don't make games like that anymore
