I like fallout 1 and 2. however one claim its fans make irks me.

its not possible to play the fallouts without combat

In the first fallout you get into fights with rats right from the outset when you leave the vault. It doesn't matter what your speech is, or your outdorrsman, etc. You still have to fight. Ditto in fallout2 in the temple of trials. You cannot talk the rat into not attacking you, so a diplomatic only chacrter cannot play the game without combat encounters!

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TOTALLY AVOID COMBAT IN FALLOUT 1 AND 2.

So there. They are great games, but I wish their uberfans would stop lying. And anyway, the combat is so fun why would you want to avoid it anyway?

Yeah Fallout 1 and 2 are great. I dont think it's the combat avoiding they loved the most, it's the freedom of it and the fact that it is turn based and top down view and a lot more tactical, makes the game so great. They have gone to a totally different direction with the game. Let me give an example

When they made Diablo 1 and then Diablo 2 they were both played the same way in the sense that it is a top down view and you click your way through. Now that DIablo 3 is coming out it will keep the same principle, but build on it's predecessors. Did Fallout 3 do the same? no. And that is why a lot of hard core fans of fallout are disappointed with the new fallout.
