Blizzard says to lower expectations for Diablo 3!

    Postby thulfiqaar » 25 Feb 2012, 11:11

A post on Eurogamer sketches out the details of a weird back and forth from Blizzard staffers. Apparently, a few days ago, community manager Micah “Bashiok” Whiple thought he’d have some fun and wrote this little note about fans’ high expectations of Diablo III in a post:

“I too worry that we won’t be able to meet the expectations people have built up for themselves. Part of my job is managing people’s expectations, so… eh… stop it. Stop thinking about how awesome this game could be. Just imagine it’s a new M. Night Shyamalan movie. Sure Sixth Sense was amazing and Unbreakable had it’s moments, but this right here is the sequel to The Village … or The Happening … or Signs … or any of the movies besides the two I first mentioned. So just like, lower those expectations, but still definitely buy the game please, and everything will be just fine. K?”

Now, it’s pretty clear that this is sarcasm—and the forum posts that come after it show that no one took Bashiok too seriously here. But, just to be sure, Jay “Daxxarri” Wilson, another community manager, jumped online to make sure that EVERYONE KNOWS THAT DIABLO III IS AWESOME:

“As those of you in the beta have seen, the game is in good shape. Actually, I should say that the beta version of the game is in good shape. The latest full build we’ve been testing here in the office is in great shape…we want you to have high expectations for Diablo III and all Blizzard games. That’s what pushes us to try to make the best gaming experiences we possibly can. If Diablo III wasn’t a worthy next installment in the Diablo series, we wouldn’t release it. That’s the way we do it. That’s the way we’ve always done it.”

But now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get to the REAL NEWS: another store has decided to announce a Diablo III release date, even though Blizzard has not done so. According to a post on VG247, a Dutch Toy Store, called Bart Smit (Dutch is weird) has a sign that marks the game’s release as April 19. Check the photo of the store’s ad that was originally posted by Dutch site Duimschroef:

And there is a release date by another store? What does this mean? Will it be release on the 19th of April? Will Diablo 3 be an awesome game? Will I ever quit gaming? Discuss!
    Peace :D

sounds like one of two things

    1) The game is great, but if peoples expectations are so high, then even an excellent game will seem average
    2) They are having trouble with balance\bugs etc and are actually worried.

Could be like Valve and their fear of releasing HL3 due to the expectations of people.

lol I read about this. Its actually more comical than anything else. I understand where they're coming from though. I dont really know if I want to get the game on release though after playing the beta. Its solid, very solid, but I didnt really have as much fun as I wanted to have or as much as I expected to have. Maybe its still just my mood.
