    Postby printf » 05 Jan 2012, 07:52

A new OS(operathing system) called sabily.
i'm wondering what you all think about this operating system based on ubuntu.
    Should we all use it?
I'm wondering if someone want to join me making a video game or PC or indie or whatever type of game. I know how to program in C++ , C , Ruby , Python!
    I'm still a teenager!

Looks nice, but my biggest concern is dual usage and whether I can play my games on that OS.

if you ever want to play game on sabily there is a software called "wine" which allow you to use windows software.

The reason I use windows is because games are designed to work on windows. whilst wine can sometimes make a game work, from what I understand is it doesn't always do the job and if it does, the question is performance wise... will i still have the same performance compared to if I ran it on Windows? You have to remember my time on the PC is majority of the time gaming. Does steam work on this OS? Does Origin work on this OS? The answer is probably no but that doesn't mean that there isn't a market for this OS. As there are many people out there that would use it.

As for it being Islamic, I think it needs adding more islamic software and customization in order for me to consider it an actual alternative to any other Ubuntu equivelant. I still would rate it as this is probably the only one custimised for muslims. Inshallah it will continue to improve.

As a programmer, it looks to me like just a bunch of software collected together. I don't see why they have to fork their own OS. @printf I read the about page, they can succeed as well (or even better) by creating or collecting a suite of Islamic applications and releasing them on Windows, since that's the predominant OS.

For non-techies: an OS is generally low-level stuff, like reading your HD and exposing it as files, using your graphics drivers, etc. -- so unless they're changing that (which is not inherently Islamic or unislamic) I don't see the point...

while i agree with you ashes, i guess the problem is that windows wouldnt allow you to redistribute the os together with the software. You could however create an installer that has all of the islamic software on it i guess?

@gengis correct. Or you could go even easier, and just distribute a zip of all these cool Islamic softwares you want. That would be awesome.

Some people might complain that they don't want everything, anyway. So let them pick and choose whatever they want; zip works there, too.

Ubuntu is nice but I prefer Windows personally as I have more experience in using it.
You can make any oprating system Islamic by adding language packs such as Arabic, Urdu, Farsi amongst others.

The Ultimate Editions of Windows Vista, 7 and 8 Pro offer language packs and you can add them easily to Microsoft Office easily for editing Islamic documents. I think it is very important to use technology for propogation of truth as Allah ta a'ala has ordered us to stay even or more advanced than the kuffar in technological advancements as Islam brought science to the world first via Quran Pak! Many secular scientists have made sajdah and became Muslims after they discovered scientific Ayat of Quran masha Allah!

    Allahu Akbar!
[Shakir 08:71] And if they intend to act unfaithfully towards you, so indeed they acted unfaithfully towards Allah before, but He gave (you) mastery over them; and Allah is Knowing, Wise.

I don't think the language is the point here but rather the islamic software that comes bundled with it, but yes in principle same thing as well.
