I havn't used Linux before but will probably get it soon. The Ubuntu version. Anyone who uses it? What do you think of it?

Well personally the only good thing I see with windows is that you can use windows with anything and the windows office. Everything else is just downhill IMO.

I've always used Windows because it's just the done thing. I've never had a mac or linux os and i don't intend to anytime in the near future.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

(I have used Ubuntu a couple of times: I ran it from a CD so I could access the files on my harddrive when my pc got messed up.)

I have never understood what is so bad about Windows. What is there that anybody here has tried to do and couldnt on Windows? What game has had issues? How has windows restricted what you want to do?

I think linux is great. Having had to install the web server, SQL databases, VPN's proxy servers, game servers and more for MG, I have learned a lot over the last year. To think that all this can be done for free is amazing.

But when you compare the 2 and look at it in the terms of what everyday people use it for, I cant think of a better OS than windows.

Mac is too restrictive for a geek like me. With Mac you do it the steve jobs way or you dont do it at all.... No thanks.

ooooooooo the OS debate..... this could go on forever in some places.. but apperantly not here :P

my opinion. Windows is nice and all, Linux is a teeny bit better imo for everything BUT games and MSOffice. Though since thats what everyone ueses Windows for, and not much else.. I say windows is better atm.

BTW: ubuntu is nie and all, but if you are a beginner to linyux, I would go with Mint. http://linuxmint.com/

Here's a little question: I use windows 7 for all day to day things. Is there an OS that is super light and easy to use which can be used for internet browsing and stuff (something like Chrome OS in terms of lightness and looks)?

actually Ubuntu is among the hevier or the Linux family. Mint is lighter.

If you wanted just chrome, you can get the Chrome OS.

Yes, You download the disk from the ubuntu website, It allows you to run ubuntu from the disk and also install it to your harddrive, Its not worth running from a cd because it takes ages to load but I served my purpose (windows somehow got corrupted and i had to get all of important files from my harddrive before i could format and reinstall).

I've seen Linux once many years ago. I'm sure it has it's advantages but I'm not sure I'm ready to try it.

Mac I used to frown upon but not anymore. Since I started to use an Iphone (I know it's not the same but still) I can see the simplicity in using it, but only as Steve Jobs want you too. Not much choices. But I've heard that if you will use your computer to work with for example movies and sound and music it's a good choice because they have really good programs for it.

But Windows is what I grow up with and what I know. It's for gaming and playing around not really knowing what your doing :crazy
